Reading for pleasure
At Queensgate, we believe that children deserve a rich curriculum which encourages extensive reading of whole books and other kinds of texts. This active encouragement of reading for pleasure is a core part of every child’s educational entitlement, whatever their starting point because we know that extensive reading and exposure to a wide range of quality texts make a huge contribution to our pupils’ educational achievement.
YOU CAN HELP TOO!
Parents/carers - you can play your part and encourage a love of reading at home. Listen to your child read regularly and also read to your child. Reading tips and advice for parents/carers
If you are stuggling to find a new book for your child, please see below the Top 100 recommended reads for each year group.
We love to hear about the books you have read together at home. Once you have read the book, let the class teacher/s know on Seesaw with a short book review and tell us why you recommend the story to others. We also love to see any photographs of you sharing stories as a family!
